Unlocking Your Communication Potential | A Busy Professionals Guide

You've got it! The know-what, the know-why, and the know-how. But what are you doing with it? Having all the solutions to every problem, the panacea to all ills, and answers to all questions won’t help anyone if you don't communicate effectively.

While volumes are written on the subject of communication, how many people truly put it into action? Especially considering that communication is often cited as a key problem and cause of failure in many businesses, and has been for years!

To help you communicate more effectively, I always keep in mind three essential principles:

1. Be Seen

Your message needs to be visible to the person who needs it. In today’s fast-paced digital world, simply having the information isn't enough. You need to ensure it reaches the right eyes. This means leveraging the right platforms, whether it's email, social media, or internal communication tools, to get your message across.

Why It’s Effective: Visibility ensures that your message doesn’t get lost in the noise. When you strategically place your communication where your audience is most active, you're increasing the likelihood of engagement and response.

How It Works with the Body and Training: Just like in training, where visibility and clarity of instruction are key to understanding and performance, ensuring your message is seen is the first step in effective communication. It’s about creating a clear path for information to travel, much like a well-planned workout routine.

2. Be Heard

The person receiving your message needs to be receptive to it in a way that suits them. This means understanding their preferred communication style—whether they prefer detailed emails, quick texts, or face-to-face meetings. Tailoring your approach to fit the recipient’s preferences can significantly improve how your message is received.

Why It’s Effective: Personalisation fosters better connections. When you communicate in a way that resonates with your audience, they are more likely to listen, understand, and act on your message.

How It Works with the Body and Training: In training, listening to your body’s needs and responding appropriately is crucial for progress. Similarly, effective communication requires understanding and responding to the preferences and needs of your audience to ensure the message is heard.

3. Be Understood

If your message is not understood and the desired actions are not taken, then it hasn’t worked. Remember, communication is a two-way process. It's not just about transmitting information, but also about ensuring it's received, understood, and acted upon.

Why It’s Effective: Clarity eliminates confusion. When your message is clear and easily understood, it reduces the chances of misinterpretation and increases the likelihood of achieving your desired outcome.

How It Works with the Body and Training: Just as clear instructions are vital for effective training, clear communication is essential for achieving goals in business. It’s about ensuring that every part of your communication strategy aligns and works together seamlessly.

Effective communication is a powerful tool in any professional’s arsenal. By focusing on being seen, being heard, and being understood, you can transform your ideas into actions and your knowledge into success. Remember, communication is not just about what you say, but how and where you say it. So, take these principles to heart and watch your communication skills—and your business—thrive.
