The David Irving Memorial Marathon in aid of MND 2026
16th May 2026
This video captures my experience at The David Irving Memorial Race in aid of MND, starting in Kirkstall, Leeds and following the Leeds to Liverpool canal towpath on a glorious sunny morning. It was one of those days that reminds you why running is about so much more than distance. Blue skies, sunshine, cool shade along the canal, great conversations, and a fantastic atmosphere from start to finish.
This was marathon number 11 for me, which still feels surreal considering I only started running marathons just over a year ago. My aim for the day was simple: enjoy it, finish it, and stay injury free. No chasing times, just making the most of the day, the people, and the journey. A huge thank you to It’s Grim Up North for putting on another brilliant event and to all the runners for such a warm, supportive and uplifting atmosphere throughout. A massive thank you as well to Terry, the tail runner, who stayed with me for the whole marathon.
We chatted for hours, and that made the miles pass so easily. What could have felt like a very long day instead felt relaxed, enjoyable and full of good company. And, as always, a huge thank you to Sarah, who was amazing and made the whole day run so smoothly with support and logistics. That kind of support makes such a difference, and I’m incredibly grateful. I also used the day to try a few different things with nutrition, which is all part of the learning that comes with this running journey.
Every event teaches you something. Most of all, this was a meaningful day because it was in aid of MND. It was a privilege to be part of an event supporting such an important cause and remembering David Irving. Thanks for watching and for being part of the journey.
