At Sharp Fit For Life, we’re always excited to share the incredible achievements of our founder, Martin Sharp. Recently, Martin appeared on the Georgey Spanswick at Breakfast show on BBC Radio York, where he shared insights into his latest adventure: competing at the prestigious Shapes in White International Snow Sculpting Competition in Ischgl, Austria with his friend `Justin Scott.

About the BBC Radio York Feature
During the interview, Martin gave listeners a glimpse into the challenges and excitement of sculpting Lilly the Frog, an interactive snow sculpture inspired by the theme of summer in the Austrian Alps. Standing at three metres tall, Lilly is a playful creation that captures the spirit of alpine summers, with a frog sunbathing on a lily pad.
Martin described the competition’s collaborative and international atmosphere, with competitors from around the world—including Italy and the UK—coming together to transform towering piles of snow into breathtaking works of art.
As Martin explained:
“We’re competing well above our weight against some of the top sculptors in the world, but.... It’s all about having fun, being creative, and sharing these moments with the community.”
What is Shapes in White?
The Shapes in White competition challenges artists to create stunning sculptures from snow at an altitude of 2,300 metres in Ischgl. With just five and a half days to carve their designs, participants must overcome unpredictable weather and the unique challenges of working with compressed snow.
